This event was hosted by OpenAI in 4 cities around the world and aimed to educate executives from leading global companies on how their businesses can grow by adopting ChatGPT and other OpenAI products. The visual identity had to reflect a sophisticated, premium, and distinctly OpenAI look and feel, while the design system had to scale across physical and digital assets for the 4 event locations. The scope of the project included a visual style guide, motion graphics package, social media assets, speaker presentation deck, and a promotional sizzle reel. I’ve worked as an ACD on this project, helping to lead a huge team of artists, from conceptualization to final development. BRIEF One of the key challenges of this project was to create a unique and bespoke visual identity for the event, while ensuring it aligned with Meta's recently-launched brand system. This required careful consideration of how the event's visuals would integrate with the overall new brand language. The brief asked us to interprete the brand’s very specific point of view on VR, which basically sees it as an extension of the real world, rather than something to replace real life and its experiences. We examined the raw, exposed materials he utilized in the project, such as wood, concrete, metal, and glass, and used it as the foundation for the solid structures we designed on 3D, alluding to the concrete world. In a parallel workstream, we gathered a group of artists and asked them to have some fun creating digital abstract paintings that could represent human expression and creativity. All the paintings were animated in 2D and then projected as light on top of the solid structures, that served as drawing boards for us to play with. <img width="1080" height="1080" width_o="1080" projections could physically affect the concrete surfaces, creating a rich dynamic between the two layers, and also evoking the limitless creative possibilities that virtual reality provides when the constraints of the real world are removed. BRAND SYSTEM Finally, we developed a comprehensive design system that encompassed multiple touchpoints, from social media campaigns to motion graphics packages. The system needed to be modular and flexible, allowing other vendors involved in the event to use it according to their needs. We integrated typography with 3D objects in a way that everything felt spatial, evoking the nature of VR. In 2021, the company approached BUCK to develop a proposal for their new identity, including a new name and brand system that would reflect the diverse and rich perspectives of the people behind Google's UX product pillars. In 2022, Riot Games asked BUCK to create a visual identity for this product, which would be used by esports organizations to organize and execute regional tournaments during the off-season. The goal of this project was to provide a way for players to stay engaged and active in between official seasons. Visually, the identity of this product should share the same ethos as its parent brand, Wild Rift Esports, but also look distinct and relatable to Wild Rift players. The identity had to be expressive, wild, and inclusive in a way that any group of players around the world could use it to create their own championships. To create the visual identity, we used the letter "W" as a starting point and developed a graphic motif that served as a metaphor for the competitive calendar, which is made up of warm-up and cool-down moments and now has The Wild Circuit connecting these peaks and valleys. The Wild Circuit visual identity was well-received by players. From a design perspective, it was a particularly interesting time to work with the brand, as this period comprises the transition from Facebook to Meta. More than a rebrand, this movement meant a complete pivot for the company, as it marks the beginning of a crusade to the metaverse and everything that derives from that. Pivoting towards the metaverse entailed building a new world-class branding system that serves as a shared dimensional canvas for everyone to create with. If in the past brand expression was restricted to two dimensions, in this new era the brand needed to be able to exist in three dimensions and virtual worlds. At that time, the company was developing a comprehensive design system to help users understand that Facebook was more than just a social media app, but an ecosystem of company-offered products and services. In this context, a company gradient could help distinguish Facebook from the social app while creating a connection between all of their brands. The gradient was meant to represent the sum of all their social technologies, incorporating colors from all of their products. Our task was to find a conceptual approach to the gradient and then create a comprehensive system around it, taking into account cross-app experiences. As a result, we conceived of the gradient as light and explored its potential behaviors and applications. In addition, the concept of an emissive source of light was incorporated into the system. Understanding the gradient as an expression of light in an environment, what its behavior should be and, also, how could it assume certain dimensionality as well?&nbsp;A systematic approach was applied to create a motion system for the gradient and establish the logic behind it. We explored the dynamic behavior of the emissive light and all the gradient colors during transitions between UI app screens and across different apps.As the emissive source of light should help aiding navigation, it was necessary to understand how the other colors would react to the light movement. FROM FACEBOOK TO META In 2021, Facebook officially became Meta, signaling the company's important pivot to building the metaverse. The goal was to ensure visual alignment with Meta’s brand guidelines, while enhancing Horizon’s own expressive, fun visual identity. How could some brand elements, such as the company ring and the gradient, be present in meaningful ways throughout the experience? Through systematic thinking, the team explored how key principles from Meta's Design System could be seen through the lense of Horizons. In its second edition, Spotify opened a female-led studio for musicians, producers, designers, and up-and-coming stars to record and create new music. The creative process was documented and shared on Spotify's platform and social media. As a Senior Art Director on this project, I was responsible by creating and developing a flexible design system that was applied to multiple touchpoints and oversaw photo and video shootings for all
